Thembi Nkonyana is the co- founder and Director of MTHETHA Recruitment and HR Consulting Company which
was established through an initiative of “give back to community programme” in the disadvantaged areas of the
Vaal in Gauteng Province.

The initiative involved the identification of the unemployed youth who were registered
on an accredited Boiler Operator programme. Once the candidates successfully completed the programme they
were awarded the qualification and thereafter were assisted to have access to employment opportunities. As a
result of this initiative MTHETHA Recruitment and HR Consulting was born in 2019.
Thembi is an accomplished professional with an extensive background in Human Resource Management (HRM)
within the Government sector. Over the course of her career, she held a position as a Personnel Officer and
through her dedication, passion and hard work, she managed to reach higher heights within the ranks to Deputy
Director Position. Her most recent role was at the Department of Infrastructure Development (DID), where she
served as Director: HRM. In this capacity she was entrusted with crucial responsibilities, including overseeing
recruitment and selection processes, onboarding of new employees, managing conditions of service and
employee’ benefits, employee health and wellness, human resource development, spearheading policy
development. Thembi played a pivotal role in implementing innovative human resource strategies, systems and
processes, contributing significantly to the overall success of DID.
Thembi has actively participated in and made significant contribution to various forums, including Employment
Equity, Departmental Standing Committee, Change management, Restructuring and Redeployment and Gauteng
Provincial Performance Management and Development. These experiences have sharpened her interpersonal skills
exceptionally enabling her to effectively engage with both internal and external stakeholders. With a wealth of
knowledge and expertise in HR practices, spanning over three decades, Thembi is a valuable asset to the Hatchet
Foundation and the organisation will benefit immensely and achieve its objectives from her skill set and capability
of driving positive change and fostering a productive work environment.
She is a highly skilled HR Professional with proven track record in establishing HR division from the ground up and
strengthening various HR units through capacity building. As a member of the Hatchet Foundation, Thembi’s role
will be pivotal in driving the organisation’s success by implementing effective HR strategies and fostering
meaningful engagement with stakeholders.
