The Hatchet Foundation (“THF”) is a Non-Profit Organization established to drive community initiatives designed to
ensure Mental Health by rendering support to individuals who are battling with or who are victims of inter alia,
anxiety, depression, gender based violence, sexual abuse, substance abuse, child bullying, human trafficking and
modern slavery (the vulnerable groups”).
The TFH is intent on providing support to the vulnerable groups within the District of Meadowlands in Soweto and
neighboring communities in South Africa, by establishing access and connecting the vulnerable groups to a
network of professionals including but not limited to, counselors, psychologists, social workers and mentors.
Our Mission
The
main objective being to contribute positively to the community by inculcating a positive mindset, transforming
lives, while pursuing the mission of change through purposeful living. In addition, access will be provided to
vulnerable client base to process their life challenges in a safe and secure facility that will ensure confidentiality
and support.
THF’s objectives focus on the following:
Child Bullying
THF aims to be a point of contact, play an advocacy role and provide the necessary proximity as a center that will drive awareness programs to empower communities with the necessary information on how to report incidents, to establish private anti-trafficking community forums and to enable a wider collaboration with law enforcement and other relevant international role playerwith similar objectives.
Human trafficking & Modern Slavery
THF aims to be a point of contact, play an advocacy role and provide the necessary proximity as a center that will drive awareness programs to empower communities with the necessary information on how to report incidents, to establish private anti-trafficking community forums and to enable a wider collaboration with law enforcement and other relevant international role players with similar objectives.
Gender Based Violence
THF set itself up to render support to victims of GBV by working closely with civil society and other agencies to increase the availability of resources, services and providing proximity by organizing itself as a Centre of hope to the victims of GBV within the immediate and surrounding communities. THF intends to provide a Helpline to victims for immediate processing of their cases by trained personnel and direction for escalation and appropriate interventions including counselling services. In addition, THF will conduct community based awareness projects to empower communities on GBV Red Flags.
Sexual violence/ abuse
THF will employ a multi-disciplinary approach to dealing with the aftermath of an assault and will serve as immediate point of contact to its community and render support and advice to victims of sexual violence and their families including appropriate escalation to law enforcement agencies and post traumatic counseling services.
Substance Abuse
THF positions itself within a community to ensure a multifaceted approach is provided for suitable interventions including mental health programs and referrals for rehabilitation.
THF will drive community based projects with an understanding that drug abuse and addiction affect individuals, families, and communities across the country. By working together with communities, government, and other organizations THF can contribute in the reduction of negative effects of drug abuse and addiction and improve the lives of individuals, families, and communities.
